Chronicles the author's walk through towns and countryside of Germany just after World War I. He gives a detailed personal account of Bavaria, Berlin, the farmland, the working class, the former soldier, the well to do, who all experienced hyper inflation from the Great War effort and owed so much money to the Allies.
The final peace agreement was not signed until 1923.
The situation following WWI in Germany of high debt, inflation, hunger, and strife from WWI created a vacuum that led to the rise of Hitler,
who would have been about 30 when this book was published in 1920.

Book also includes a rare 1919 French letter written to a Texas pen pal during WWI.

The book also includes a rare letter written March 20, 1919 from Claremont (Ferrand), France from a French girl (Antoinette) to a pen pal in Texas. The girl sketched what a French soldier looked like in uniform, and wrote the letter in English and in French to her pen pal Lawrence about American soldiers and French customs. The letter is written on front and back of a folded paper, with the sketch on a separate piece of paper. The sketch has a minor tear but is still together. The letter is all legible.     

Book Condition: Good. The cover has minor corner and spine corner wear from shelving. Original owner name written inside cover and endpage. A few inside pages have light yellowing and foxing. All pages fully readable and binding fully intact.
